Every week, we watch as caseworkers across the state submit needs on CarePortal for families facing food insecurity. Oklahoma is only 1 of 7 states with a food insecurity rate higher than the national average of 13.5%. Over 900,000 Oklahomans relied on SNAP at some point in 2024. We are constantly reminded that children and families are struggling with hunger in our neighborhoods. The 111Project manages CarePortal, which we use across the state to bridge the gap between those with food insecurities and those who can help.
As we look to a pause in SNAP benefits beginning on November 1st, we know many of our neighbors will face new levels of hunger. While requests will still be made on CarePortal, many will not. Throughout the state, churches and various organizations are coming together to care for those in our community. We want to help equip you to care for those in your community.
