111Project movement in Tulsa County

  • January 31, 2019
  • Church Highlight, Foster Care

On January 28th, 2016 111Project had the opportunity to launch a new ministry platform in Tulsa County called CarePortal. The idea was simple. The state child welfare agency had opportunities to assist children and families in crisis and there were churches who were willing to help. The challenge was not the willingness of churches. The challenge was connecting those who wanted to help with the needs of those that needed it.

Ever since the launch in 2016, 111Project has been dreaming with OKDHS about rolling out a volunteer program. This is not something new to many areas of child welfare in Oklahoma. Some smaller counties have had successful volunteer programs. Some of our private agencies have had volunteer programs. 111Project has also had a long history of assisting in recruiting volunteers at the state shelters that are now closed due to better placement options for kids. Despite this, there has not been a large scale sustainable volunteer program in Oklahoma. January 30th, 2018 is the beginning of a change to that. 111Project is excited that after a final orientation at the Downtown DHS office on January 30th, Tulsa county has it’s first 10 approved volunteers with the potential of 100 more from one 111Project church theChurch.at. Currently, 111Project’s CarePortal has rolled out in 12 Oklahoma Counties serving over 5000 children providing over 2,000,000 dollars of assistance to OKDHS and its clients. We know that volunteer engagement will add a missing piece to community support. Churches will now be able to use CarePortal in Tulsa for meeting practical, relational, and familial needs of children and families in Tulsa County.
